The witching hours – Connection to ghosts?
By Jon Wim
The witching hours are the hours that are considered to start from 12 am to 3 am in the morning. This is the time when ghosts are supposed to be released from the underworld and roaming around. A few generations back, there was a common belief that if you have a habit of sleeping late, you might get an otherworldly experience which is not welcomed during the witching hours. Is this true? Well, some commonly reported stories are the feeling of being watched and a cold sensation. Also, other feelings like an uneasiness and hair standing on end have been reported. If you stay up late into the night, the chances of experiencing something odd definitely increases. While scientific logic could explain some of the odd experiences but then again, stranger tales have been reported. As ghosts cannot be seen, there is no conclusive evidence that they come out during the witching hours. But there is a good reason to explain why our perceptions seem wonky during these late hours – Our mind or brain cannot function as it should. Many a road accident has happened during the wee hours of the morning because concentration is not at its peak. That’s why it is not a good idea to sleep late. You are not biologically outfitted to sleep so late. Our ancestors all slept when the lights went out, and they were healthier for it. So chalk this up as another reason why you shouldn’t sleep so late at night. Ghosts or ghouls notwithstanding, there are some merits in the old wives tale. Get to bed early and get a good night’s rest. If you can't sleep, try some sleep aids which may help.
