Sleep deprivation

Sleep deprivation means going without adequate sleep. If the sleep deprivation is prolonged or long term, it can have serious effects on your health. It’s a serious problem with the hectic pace of life today, where many jobs are based on shifts at odd hours.

Some of the problems associated with prolonged sleep deprivation are cardiac problems. The heart gets stressed and over time, this affects the heartbeat rate. This is why doctors caution against the heightened risk of heart attack among those who regularly get inadequate sleep. After several years of not having enough sleep, I realized my heart was much weaker than before, and normal exercise gave me palpitations!

Another serious side effect of prolonged sleep deprivation is premature aging. This is because the body is unable to produce enough hormones to revitalize the cells. The prime time for the body to repair the body is during sleep, so when you are not getting enough sleep for a prolonged period, you’ll start looking older than your age.

Doctors all concur that not getting enough sleep for prolonged periods will shorten your lifespan. There are a lot of body processes that occur during sleep and without enough of it, things will start to go wrong.

So, please make enough effort to get enough sleep at least for most of the time. It is obvious that the human body is not designed to go without its sleep time, so although the world compels us to view sleeping as a waste of time, sleep should never be a trivial affair! Your health depends on it.
