My treasured magazines

By Jon Wim

Some of my treasured magazines are a bunch of magazines from the Images of War series. If you’ve ever owned any of these, you’d probably agree with me that the Images of War series by Marshall Cavendish is a mighty good magazine series on World War 2. The series came out in 1989 and lasted for a couple of years.

In total, there are about 56 issues, or maybe more, I can’t recall clearly. I own about 7 of them, and I’ve kept them all in good condition. What I like best about them is they are very detailed and there is a foldout that is painstakingly illustrated showing some of the weapons of the time. Things like airplanes, tanks and artillery are all shown in breathtaking detail, which includes a 3D view profile view as well.

There is also a blow by blow account of some of the major battles of the Second World War including the troop movements. All very detailed and well laid out. Since that series, I’ve not seen any other publishers coming out with something equivalent.

Being somewhat of a history buff, I think this is a shame, and now with the advent of the internet, there probably won’t be anymore publications like this again, as publishers do not see anymore economic sense in this. So treasure your old magazines, whatever they are. They might be worth something in twenty years time, you never know.

I have never seen any of these types of magazines. You are probably right about their increasing in value if kept in good condition.

Yeah, the last time I saw someone selling the Images of War series for several hundred dollars. That was like 5 years ago. In 10 years time, who knows?

Thank you for sharing this piece of magizine history, Jon.
I don't recall this magazine on World war II.
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes.
Frederick
