My sandwich opinion
By Jon Wim
I am neutral about sandwiches. Ever since I ate my first sandwich, I’ve come to realize there are great sandwiches, mediocre sandwiches, and awful sandwiches. Since this is Sandwich Week, I suppose I’ll share what I like and dislike about sandwiches. Love them or hate them, sandwiches have been around since a long time, and I’ve had my fair share of good and bad sandwiches in my lifetime. What makes a good sandwich to me is one that has a tuna spread, mayonnaise, butter, some lettuce, tomato slices, pineapple cuts, a slice of cheese, plus some scrambled eggs within. These types of sandwiches always make me full very fast and the most I can have is a few of them, and I’m done. The bread needs to be whole meal bread, and it must be fresh. Yummy. The lousy sandwiches (at least to me), are those that have not-so-fresh white bread, which tastes stale and hard. The ingredients are just nothing but scrambled eggs and margarine, and it tastes salty and oily. I regard butter as healthier than margarine, which in my opinion is nothing more than liquefied bio-plastic, and so, any sandwich with margarine on, puts me off. Canned sardine sandwiches also put me off. I have eaten many kinds of sandwiches for lunch, on and off over the course of my life, but the best sandwiches are usually the home made ones, not those you picked up from the bakery shelf. What could be a better lunch than a sandwich prepared with tender love and care, straight from the home kitchen? I guess that is the "other" meaning of what sandwiches have come to represent to us all.
