Middle ages history

By Jon Wim

If you could go back in time, which part or which age do you want to live in? I’d love to go back to the Middle Ages if I could; I think this age is just about one of the most exciting times in history.

Think about it, castles, knights, ladies, chivalry, warlords, and warfare were all part and parcel of the Middle Ages. I liked castles when I was small, and their architecture and construction always fascinated me. Every rich warlord who could afford one, built a castle, and some of the biggest castles could hold out for months against a siege. The ruins of castles today stand as testament to their durability and power, during the Middle Ages.

The Middle Ages was a period of history when humans realized there was so much to the world than just the land around them, and embarked on long journeys abroad to trade and establish contact, or in some cases wage war. This was a period when many peoples around the world had developed their civilizations to a high degree, simultaneously; you had some great kingdoms in the South Americas, Far East, Europe, and the Middle East.

Of course, such a diversity of kingdoms meant clashes would occur, and they did, with the Crusades, the Hundred Years War, and the Mongol conquests among the major wars of the Middle Ages. This was an age where wimps wouldn’t survive; you really had to be tough, and know how to wield a sword! Bandits and criminals were everywhere, but also provided a chance for heroes to shine. And there was actually this thing called chivalry!

Although the Middle Ages have come and gone there is no doubt this was an important period which played an indelible role in the shaping of our history.
